Go Where You’re Wanted | Nuggets From A Friend

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. (Romans 12:18)

One of my close friends and fellow blogger, recently shared something that I thought contained some great insight. When I read it, it made me think about Romans 12:18, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”

If it is possible.

Sometimes we come to a point in our lives when have to accept the reality that the relationships that we want with some people just may not be possible.  Maybe for a season. Maybe indefinitely.

She was kind enough to let me share her words with you guys. I hope it encourages someone.

My stepmother and I were always very close. She came into my life at a very young age.  She was the woman that taught me how to wrap my hair and polish my nails, she bought me first my first tube of MAC Lipstick and took me on a date to see BAPS (still one of my favorite movies).  Even through adulthood we remained close until one day, she stopped answering my calls.  For years I tried to forge a relationship with her, because she wasn’t just my step mom she was my friend and I missed her.   We’d make plans and then I’d never hear from her. I was definitely hurt  about it because when I love someone I love them hard and would do anything in the world for them (some of you know this first hand). Then last year with the encouragement of my therapist I decided to call her one last time… I knew she wouldn’t answer so I planned to leave a voicemail to apologize for whatever I did to make her treat me this way…she actually answered, we laughed and joked and she promised to do a better job of keeping in contact with me and she apologized for falling off the face of the earth.  I never heard from her again.  I read an article on Scary Mommy about a similar situation and I realized… it is  important to “Go where you are wanted”  don’t focus on the people that reject you but focus on the people that love you.  Focus on the people that want you around and appreciate you being in their lives as much as you appreciate them.  Embrace a life with those people and forget everyone else!  In order to catch the blessings and goodness life has to offer, we have to let go of the baggage that comes from hurt and rejection.   -Jennifer   @myproductaddiction
