Dont Give Up: Hope In Season Of Weariness

Hey there, have you ever experienced a season of life when you felt unmotivated, distracted, and just downright weary?
I know I have.
Looking back, I remember a particular season when I felt extremely discouraged. My spirit was so low. Part of my weariness was due to being stuck in a holding pattern. There were specific areas of my life that I had been praying about, but I hadn’t seen much movement, at least from my viewpoint. I knew that God was and is always faithful to His word. But as much as I tried to believe it, I had difficulty accepting if anything would ever change. Keeping the faith wasn’t easy.
I understand that we are all prone to experiencing these moments. But the important thing is that we don’t allow ourselves to stay there.
So the question is, how do we handle these challenging times? What can we do when we feel weary? The way each of us copes may vary, but here are a few things I’d like to share that helped me during my rough patch.
- Look In. When we experience weariness, it is often a sign of underlying issues in our hearts that need attention. Taking the time to identify the root cause of our discouragement is crucial to move in the right direction. Authentic healing requires us to confront our true emotions and be truthful about our internal struggles. Hiding doesn’t help us. Engaging in self-reflection is always helpful. Write it out. Talk it out. Get it out.
- Look Out. I am thankful to God for the wonderful community He has surrounded me with. I understand that during weak moments, not everyone will understand your struggles. However, it’s important not to isolate yourself, something I have been guilty of. We were not created to live this life alone. When you feel your strength draining, take advantage of the support system that God has placed in your life. In Exodus 17:12, there’s a beautiful picture of this. When Moses’ arms became weary during a battle, it says “they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it, while Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side.” Talk about support. So look out, and allow someone to walk with you. That listening ear, that shoulder to cry on could be exactly what you need to help you come out of despair.
- Look Up. And most importantly of all, look up. Psalm 121 reminds us to lift our eyes to the One where we find our help. I’m learning that my moments of weariness are often reminders of my need to draw even closer to our Lord. I remember seeing a car in front of me with a bumper sticker that read, “Jesus Is The Answer.” Such a simple, yet powerful reminder that He is always exactly what we need. Look up friend, Look up.
Take heart. With each passing moment, there is hope that all will be well, even if your circumstances do not shift immediately. Embrace the enduring love that Jesus bestows upon His children. Your inner strength will be revitalized to continue walking in alignment with the purposes He has ordained for your life, even in moments of despair.
So if you find yourself feeling like you want to throw in the towel, don’t. Keep going.
God has promised in due time we will reap if we don’t grow weary.
